A long way to Tipperary

My day today was a bit shorter than planned.

In the morning I drove 20 km to Tipperary. The town doesn't really have that that much to offer, but just to be able to use the title of this post, it was worth it (if you don't know what I'm talking about, google the title).

The second target today was Cahir. I did as much sightseeing as possible between heavy rain showers. I visited the castle, but even though it's in much better condition than the Rock of Cashel, it's no where close as interesting. The location of the town and especially of the castle is really beautiful though. The river Suir flows through the city and the castle is located on a small island.

Now I'm sitting in a barn at the Apple farm, a farm producing the best apple juice in Ireland (Bridgestone guide 2012). If you are wondering what I'm doing here, the answer is simple: the farm has camping grounds on it. Very pretty and very inexpensive (6e50c/person and no other charges). Plus you get a bottle of the award-winning apple juice as well. The juice was good (notice the past tense, the bottle is empty).

This was actually not my original plan, but the heavy showers slowed me down too much after arriving in Cahir to keep on schedule. The camping sign saying "The Apple" came unexpectedly, but exactly when I needed it.

The tent is waiting for me outside and I'll head there as soon as my phone is fully charged. I'll take a couple of pictures this time as well. The transfer to my Dropbox will have to wait until tomorrow. The connection here is awful.

I'm driving through Clonmel tomorrow morning and then head to Waterford. Colin and Jutta might meet me there in the afternoon.

Tomorrow more news from the Emerald island.

  1. Not wanting to disappoint you Harri but ..... there is no camping at the Bulmers factory in Clonmel .... you'll have to make do with the non alcoholic apple juice !
