Wednesday way to Waterford

After waking up in my tent (it was raining), I decided to keep on going in spite of the weather. I got lucky, the moment I was ready to go, the rain changed to sunshine. I got to Clonmel completely dry.

Clonmel is a city on the river Suir just like Cahir. This time there's no castle though. Even without a castle the city is really beautiful and idyllic even. I took a visit in the Main guard museum (entrance was free and it was raining outside). It really taught me some things about the Ormond family and especially James Butler the 1st Duke of Ormond. I'm not going to bore you with too many details, but he used to be the viceroy of Ireland in the 17th century. He was liked by the Irish as well as the British royals.

The weather got better by the time I had finished my tour in the Main guard and had had breakfast in a nice restaurant. Next quick stop on the way was Carrick-on-Suir. I actually just took a quick look at the Ormond castle from the outside.

From there it was a sunny ride to Waterford. After taking a quick shower in the hostel, I took a tour through the city with Colin and Jutta, who came over to see the city and me. We walked around, had coffee, went to see some expensive crystals at Waterford Crystal and had dinner.

After "my guests" left back to feed my friend Goofy, I planned to update my blog and go to bed. Well, as you can see from the post last night, it didn't work out the way I planned. The hostel was full of young people from all over the world and they were just about to leave for a beer. I joined them and had a great time in T and H Doolan's pub. We even had live traditional music sit in (guests could join in).

I just had breakfast upstairs and I think today will be a lazy day. I might walk a little in the city and take some pictures. I'll give you an update later.

I uploaded the pictures from the last two days in to my Dropbox folder. You should take a look at the Cahir panorama shot from the castle tower (Tour day 6). It looks nice in my mobile at least.

(If Antti and/or Maria are reading this, there's a special picture for you in the Dropbox folder taken just after Clonmel.)
