Baltimore, Cork county, Ireland

I woke up this morning well rested at eight. I remember waking up a couple of times in the night. It was raining a lot every time I was up. There was absolutely no water in my tent. The one kilo wonder tent is worth it's price for sure. I had to pack it quickly and wet though, because it was still drizzling.

First stop I made was in Ross Carbery. I had a good and sturdy breakfast at "Pilgrim's rest". It took me a while to get going again, because the drizzle kept going and going. I waited patiently and was rewarded.

Around noon the sky cleared and I could "fly my kite" (dry the tent). It's a procedure that takes about ten to fifteen minutes of holding the tent up from two corners and letting the sun and the wind take care of the rest. At least here the strong wind was very helpful today...

Next stop was a town called Skibbereen. I visited the local tourist information office and a nice lady working there suggested that I should definitely make a short detour to Lough Hyne on my way to Baltimore. I'm very grateful to that lady. Lough Hyne is a small lake next to the coast. Its water is saline, because sea water floods in through a small creek during high tide. There are some unusual plant and animal species living in the Lough. And the surroundings... well just take a look at the pictures.

My final destination today was Baltimore (not the one in Maryland). It's a small village on the coast in the end of the first of many peninsulas still to come on my tour.

Tomorrow I'm going to cheat a little. I plan to take a shortcut and take the ferry to Cape clear island (the most southern inhabited island in Ireland) and from there I'll try to catch a ferry to Schull (a town in the next peninsula). That would save me from some backtracking and I get to see a nice island as well. That's the plan anyways...

I just had my first Murphy's stout here in Ireland in a nice but quiet pub. Now I'm off to do some more sightseeing. More pictures might appear in the Dropbox folder later.

More tomorrow!
