Going coastal

Today I did something new. Up to know I've been driving off the coast, but today I didn't get much off the coast (English is a funny language sometimes, isn't it?)

I left Waterford little past nine in the morning. It wasn't raining even though the sky was covered with clouds. Before leaving I took a couple of pictures in Waterford that I couldn't do yesterday because of the rain (see the Dropbox folder Tour day 9).

The first waypoint today was Tramore. It's located about ten kilometers south of Waterford and it's a popular holiday beach resort in the area. It looked very empty, but I guess this "November weather" doesn't attract people to the beach much.

I took a scenic route from Tramore through the Copper Coast Geopark. It is a Unesco Geopark because of it's natural and built environment. It's named after the 19th century metal, especially copper mining in the area. During the 25 kilometers of coastal road there were numerous signs and shields telling about the local geology and mining history. There were also bits of information about the last ice age and the traces it left in the area. Even if these sort of things don't interest you, the road is worth taking. The sceneries were breathtaking! Especially the views from the cliffs around Annestown and Bunmahon were amazing.

My next waypoint was Dungarvan. The weather changed radically about five kilometers before I got there and by the time I hit the city limits, I was soaked. I can't tell you much of Dungarvan, because the only thing I did there was sitting in a cafe and getting dry for two hours. I felt like going on a bit further after the long break and since it wasn't raining any more, I decided to hit the road again.

I did another 35 kilometers and saw a camping sign next to the road. Because the area looked bally suited for "wild camping", I chose the easier way. A hot shower was worth the 10 euros.

Now I'm sitting in the camping ground's kitchen blogging and eating. In ten minutes I'm ready for my cozy sleeping bag in my cozy tent. This time I promise to take pictures of my tent! I'll upload them in the "Tour day 9" folder asap.

(Oh, by the way, it's raining again!)

Tomorrow Cork!
